Popularizing Ulos Culture by Presenting Nusantara Weaving Festival

News24xx.com - The first time will be held, the Nusantara Weaving Festival (FTN) will be held on 13-17 October 2018 in North Tapanuli Regency, North Sumatra.

This activity is an effort to develop the charm of Batak culture in terms of the world of ulos weaving to the world. And this activity will be held in two locations, namely in Muara and Tarutung, North Tapanuli Regency.

Chairperson of the 2018 Nusantara Weaving Festival Working Team, Despin Butar, together with one of Yanes Sidabutar's technical teams, said that the first time this event was held would carry the theme 'Ahu Partonun' (I am a weaver).

"Various event performances included the Nusantara weaving exhibition at the North Tapanuli Art Building, then on October 14 the traditional children's game festival. On 15 October the opening ceremony and international symposium on ulos. And on 15-16 October on Sibandang Island part of the boot boot camp. "And lastly, at 16-17 in Muara the matumora festival was held by the people culture party," he said, quoted from local media, on Saturday (1/9).

"FTN 2018 is supported by the Directorate General of Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia and the North Tapanuli Regency Government in a cultural platform called Indonesiana, which is in accordance with Law No. 5 of 2017," he said.

Despin said, North Tapanuli Regency which was in the Lake Toba area was willing to host the festival. This is reinforced by the fact that in this district there are around 3,000 weavers.

"For the Lake Toba region, specifically in North Tapanuli Regency, weaving is a big theme that represents the potential and cultural character," he said again.

The preparation of the 2018 FTN has been implemented since September 2017, with the establishment of the Indonesiana Toba work team consisting of the arts and culture community and creative industries.
