News24xx.com - The director operation of Air India and senior pilot, Arvind Kathpalia failed his respiratory test because he had consumed alcohol more than the established limit. It happened before he was scheduled to fly the Boeing AI-111 plane from New Delhi to London, England.

As cited from ndtv.com, the alcohol content in Kathpalia’s blood was very high, more than what is permitted. This condition caused him to be brought to trial by Directorate General of Indian Civil Aviation.

“A few minutes after the test was done, the doctor came to me and said that my blood contained alcohol,” he said.

During an interview, Kathpalia regretted that the information came in the last minutes before he flew the plane. However, according to the authority, there is something wrong with the machine so the test ran a little longer. This condition caused the flight to be postponed for an hour. A new pilot was appointed for the AI-111 flight.

The regulation of aviation industry requires pilots not to drink alcohol 12 hours before their flight. They will undergo tests to see their alcohol content before and after the flight. For Kathpalia, this was the second time he was caught in the same case.
