News24xx.com - The terrorist group Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) claimed responsibility for the stabbing that killed one person and wounded two others in the city of Melbourne, Australia, on Friday, November 9th 2018 afternoon. ISIS claims this claim through their propaganda channel.

"The perpetrator of a crime operation ... in Melbourne ... is an ISIS fighter and he completed the action ... to target coalition countries" said Amaq, the ISIS news agency.

Australian police say the perpetrators whose names have not been disclosed live in the suburbs of Melbourne. The perpetrators came to Australia in the 1990s from Somalia, when a civil war raged in the country. Australia itself is a member of United States-led coalition that is fighting the existence of ISIS in Syria and Iraq, since 2014.

Earlier the Australian Police considered stabbing in one of Melbourne's business districts (CBDs) as an act of terrorism. "We believe that the threat is gone now, but of course we consider this incident as an act of terrorism" Victoria Police Chief Graham Ashton said.

The security forces immediately secured the perpetrator not far from the scene. The perpetrator was declared dead in the hospital after being shot by police after trying to escape from the police. Reported by Reuters, Ashton said the man was driving a four-wheeled vehicle filled with gas tubes. The police are still warning local residents to avoid the scene, even though the perpetrators have been secured.
