News24xx.com - The number of tourist arrivals in Nepal reached 1 million people for the first time in 2018. This was driven by increased visits from Indian, Chinese, US, Sri Lankan and British tourists. The Himalayan nation experienced an increase in tourist numbers of nearly 25 percent and achieving a record of 1,173,072 visitors in 2018, the Nepal Tourism Agency said on Tuesday, January 8th 2019.

Rabindra Adhikari, Minister of Tourism of Nepal, called this new record as an extraordinary. The record was also broken on the summit of Mount Everest, totaling 807 climbers during 2018. A total of 563 people climbed from the Nepalese side.

Tourism is the main income for Nepal, home to eight of the 14 highest mountains in the world with a height of more than 8,000 meters. Nepal's tourism industry was gloomy, after a devastating earthquake in 2015 that killed nearly 9,000 people and destroyed many state heritage sites.

The tourism industry's annual income fell by almost a third of the year, facing a severe blow to the country’s economy system, but the sector has gradually recovered since then. Tourism contributed 7.8 percent to Nepal's income in 2017, creating more than 1 million jobs, according to the World Travel and Tourism Council.

The Himalayas are increasingly crowded with tourists. But this also has a negative impact on its natural sustainability. In a number of previous reports, it was mentioned that a pile of garbage was seen in camping areas of mountain Himalaya.
