Micheangelo’s painting from 16th century is stolen from Belgium church

News24xx.com - Michelangelo's painting from the 16th century is missing from a church in Belgium. A priest named Jan Van Raemdonck reported the case to local police in the small town of Flemish, north of Brussels. At first the priest saw two women put flowers in the center of the Sint-Ludgerus church or in front of the painting. Paintings known as the 'Lost Micheangelo'  disappeared from its position near the altar.

The painting depicts Mary, Joseph, and the sleeping baby Jesus. Even though before the news of the lost of the masterpiece painting the experts would evaluate Michelangelo's painting. Reported by the Guardian, his paintings were donated to the church by a former Belgian senator, Etienne Cooremn, 16 years ago.

"I have never talked about the painting to the public. I want to wait for the experts and if they say that is Michelangelo’s, I will increase the security of the building. I only tell few families, friends and church councils" he said.

The church believes that the theft of paintings was carried out by more than one thief. The paintings are displayed in frames made of wood and weigh around 100 kilograms. Michelangelo was known as a painter, sculptor, poet and architect in the Renaissance era.
