Thousands of people in Dumai city are exposed by smoke and experienced respiratory infections

News24xx.com -  The forest and land fires (karhutla) in Riau still continue to expand. As a result, thousands of people are exposed the smoke and experience respiratory infections.

The most severe fog is now enveloping the city of Dumai and Bengkalis Regency. 

In Dumai City, although a number of hotspots could be extinguished, but the smoke came from the land fires in Bengkalis,  which is until now the fire was still burning. This condition caused the smoke to surround the two regions. And the smoke also has exposed thousands of people and caused illness.

Data from the Riau Provincial Health Office, for Dumai City there were 2,199 people that affected by acute respiratory infections (ARI). For pneumonia there are 7 people, there are 52 people with asthma, there are 58 people eye irritation, and there are 28 people with skin irritants.

"From the temporary data, Dumai is most exposed by smoke from the land fires," said the Head of Riau Health Office, Mimi Yuliani Nazir on Tuesday, Feb. 26 2019.

And she also explained, the same conditions were also felt by the residents of Bengkalis Regency. There are 247 people that affected by ARI, there are 15 people that affected by asthma, there are 4 people that affected by pneumonia, there are 24 people that affected by eye irritation, and there are 13 people that affected by skin irritation.

And for Rokan Hilir Regency, there were 42 people that affected by ARIs, there are 4 people that affected by eye irritation, and there are 16 people had skin irritation.
