News24xx.com - Real University Student (Kukerta) in Riau University Alah Air Timur Village, Tebing Tinggi Subdistrict, Meranti Islands Regency held a socialization on how to make compost or organic fertilizer from dry grass and household waste.

The activity which took place at the Alah Air Timur Village Office on Monday (7/29/2019) was a form of student service to the village community in Kukerta activities. Moreover, this activity is also an increase in people's knowledge to utilize the surrounding waste that can still be recycled.

According to the Village Coordinator (Kordes) of Alah Air Timur, with this socialization the community can better understand how to use waste materials for making organic fertilizers.

"It is hoped that through this activity, it can increase the independence of the community in agriculture. Especially the Desa Alah Air Timur community" he concluded

Meanwhile, Field Supervisor (DPL) Dr. Andarini Diharmi, S.Pi, M.Sc, said that in making organic fertilizer or compost fertilizer the ingredients are quite easy to obtain. Moreover, the main ingredients for making fertilizers, namely EM4, are already available at Meranti.

"The ingredients are not difficult, people can use the remaining dry grass and wilted vegetables. But this was because our students have no acid from the rest of the household waste so we use the starfruit. After that we add EM4 and sugar so that the process is faster "said DPL who is more familiar with the name Rini.

Rini hopes that this activity can be beneficial for the community to make better use of household waste that can still be recycled so that it does not depend on artificial fertilizers.

"Our hope is that in the future the community can process their own waste starting from the household. Hopefully it will develop so that the community can provide their own fertilizer and no longer depend on artificial fertilizers. Because this is organic waste, easily processed household waste" he hoped.

In this activity there were also village officials, Kukerta students from the State Islamic University and also agricultural assistant representatives from several villages.
