News24xx.com - The death of a sun bear caused by human snares in a community garden formerly forest encroachment in the village of Batu Teritip, Senepis, Dumai apparently also monitored by the Center for Conservation of Natural Resources (BBKSDA) Riau.

This statement was justified by the Head of the Regional Region KSDA Heru Sutmantoro, Thursday, August 15, 2019.

According to him, they could not do much for the death of the poor animal because of the distance due to having to wait for officers to get to the location.

"So I ask the Wildlife Foundation team (RSF) at the location to immediately release the snares. Because if you wait for the team from Pekanbaru it will take longer (8 hours drive) to arrive," he added.

After the team succeeded in releasing the snares, the unlucky bear's life could not be helped anymore. Furthermore, according to him, the follow up efforts will be coordinated with RSF to address the many snares on the community plantations.

Previously, one sun bear (helarctor malayanus) died as a result of entering a snare installed in a community garden formerly encroached in the village of Batu Teritip, Senepis, Dumai.

The death of this protected animal was confirmed by the Chairman of the Duri Rimba Wildlife Foundation (RSF), Zulhusni Syukri, Thursday, August 15, 2019.
