The Haze is Getting Worse, Rector of Riau University Disburses Students Until Saturday

News24xx.com - This is an example of universities and other schools in Riau Province. Because the smoke haze was getting thicker in Pekanbaru, finally Riau University Chancellor Prof. Dr. Aras Mulyadi, dismissed all students from Thursday afternoon at 13:00, 12 September 2019 until later Saturday.

The certainty of dismissing students was issued through Circular Number: 26 / UN19 / TU.002 / 2019 September 12, 2019 which was signed on behalf of the Rector Prof. Dr. Sujianto, Msi.

This Circular is addressed to all Deans and Postgraduate Directors at the University of Riau.

"Seeing the development of increasingly deteriorating air quality, the Dean and the Director of the Postgraduate Program to dismiss lectures or the learning process, from Thursday 12 September 2019 at 13.00 to Saturday 14 September 2019," Sujianto was quoted as saying in the Circular.

Based on observations on campus, it was seen around 1:00 pm that all students were sent home by their respective lecturers. Students also looked crowded in the parking lot going home.

Meanwhile, a first semester student at the Department of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, University of Riau, Zalikha Azzahra said they were all told to go home by lecturers because the smoke haze was getting thicker. Not good for health.

"We were all sent home. The haze here is getting worse. We are also afraid of being exposed to ISPA and shortness of breath. Fortunately the Chancellor and the Dean are responsive, dismiss students," said Zalikha again, Thursday, September 12, 2019.
 
Meanwhile, separately, in front of the Riau Governor's Office on Jalan Sudirman Pekanbaru, hundreds of Riau University students who were coordinated by BEM Riau University held a demonstration, Thursday morning until noon, protesting about the thick haze.

In the demonstration, three students passed out short of breath and were rushed to the hospital.
