News24xx.com - Pakistan criticized the US State Department's report that put the Muslim country on the list of countries with the highest violations of religious freedom in the world. The government in Islamabad considers the assessment process to be "suspicious."

"Pakistan rejects unilateral and random labeling," the Foreign Ministry wrote in Islamabad on Tuesday (12/24). "The announcement is not only far adrift from reality on the ground, but also questions the credibility and transparency of the whole process."

In an annual report published last week, the US Department of State assessed Pakistan as among those countries, where the right of minority groups to practice their religious teachings was systematically and continuously restricted.

One of the most striking cases is the heresy accusations of blasphemy against Christian women named Asia Bibi. He had to stay in solitary confinement for eight years before the Supreme Court acquitted him of all charges last year.

Although declared innocent, the Pakistani government under PM Imran Khan had blocked Asia from traveling abroad. Now he is displaced and lives in Canada with his family.

The International Religious Freedom Commission at the US Congress also reported, as many as 40 people charged with blasphemy were currently awaiting execution in Pakistan.

The government in Islamabad also lashed out, over the controversial practice of forcing Hindu or Christian women to convert when married to Muslim men.

Denying this, Pakistan's Foreign Ministry wrote in a statement, "Subjectivity and biased judgments are increasingly clear with the absence of India, the biggest violator of religious freedom,"

Indonesia is also included in a country that records discrimination against religious minorities. In this case, the US Department of State refers to cases of blasphemy court, the eradication of the right to worship for Ahmadiyah or Shia and various Sharia regulations that are considered detrimental to the minority.

The US State Department's annual report also noted the closure of the church or the refusal of building permits for Christian congregations to be a black spot on religious freedom in Indonesia.
