The Status of Pekansikawan Metropolitan City is Threatened, This is the Response of the Mayor of Pekanbaru

PEKANBARU - Government of Pekanbaru is rushing to prepare documents for the establishment of the Metropolitan Pekansikawan area (Pekanbaru, Siak, Kampar, and Pelalawan). This preparation was carried out after the Pekanbaru City Government was assessed by the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (Kemen PUPR) lack of communication.

"We at the Pekanbaru City Government ranks prepare documents about the Metropolitan Pekansikawan area plan. Of course, the district and city governments coordinated by the Riau Provincial Government must also be responsive to the processes currently in place at the center," said Pekanbaru Mayor Firdaus after a meeting with the head of the organization regional apparatus (OPD) at his residence on Monday (01/20/2020).

Of the 21 new metropolitan areas that are being prepared by the central government this year, Pekansikawan is ranked 17th.

"So, we cannot stand by to wait for fate. Of some local governments in Sumatra Province, the most excited is North Sumatra," said Firdaus.

The Governor of North Sumatra and his team involved in the metropolitan area have met several times with the central team. While the Pekanbaru City Government team only exchanged relations with the Ministry of Public Works and Housing in early January.

"During the meeting, the Ministry of Public Works and Public Works was informed that the communication from the regional government for the Metropolitan Pekansikawan area was very lacking. Therefore, we in Pekanbaru City Government officials prepared all chronologies in building Pekansikawan," said Firdaus.

It is also hoped that the Siak, Kampar, and Pelalawan Regency Governments support the data for the preparation of the Pekansikawan Metropolitan area. The data that has been prepared is submitted to the Riau Provincial Government.

"We hope that the Riau Provincial Government will be the representative of the central government in the region and also the coordinator of the autonomous regional government. Under the command of the governor, we will also actively communicate with the technical ministries in the central government in preparing the metropolitan area regulations which will be processed this year. If we are not diligent in communicating "Later, the central team thinks we are not worthy yet," Firdaus said. (R24 / put)
