Corona Virus Spreads in China, Starbucks Closes 90 Stores in Hubei Province

News24xx.com - Starbucks has closed all stores and suspended delivery services in Hubei Province, China, for the Lunar New Year holiday for a week due to the corona virus.

"Starbucks said on Saturday the closing was anticipated for customers and employees, according to social media uploads," quoted from Tempo.co, Saturday (1/25/2020).

Starbucks said it had closed all 90 stores in Hubei indefinitely. All Starbucks stores and special deliveries in Hubei will be temporarily closed.

"Hubei employees are asked to rest at home, minimize outside activities, take care to protect themselves and their families. All store employees who are scheduled to work during the closing period will be paid as usual," according to a Starbucks statement, quoted by CNN.

Closing will continue throughout the Spring Festival, which runs until the end of January. Starbucks will announce a decision about how long the store will close.

The company also announced a donation of 3 million yuan to the Chinese Red Cross for the purchase of protective clothing, masks, disinfection and sterilization supplies needed by medical personnel in areas affected by the corona virus in Hubei province.

On January 24, 41 people died from the corona virus. As of Friday, 1,287 people were confirmed to have the corona virus and 237 of them were in critical condition, the Xinhua government news agency reported.
