News24xx.com - Using native bears to chase away monkeys might seem a strange idea but Sikandarpur villagers in the district, it seems, have no other choice.

More than 2,000 monkeys are known to cause trouble and disturb village life. Unfortunately, forestry officials in the area turned a blind eye to this problem, so the villagers decided to solve their own problems.

But, instead of using native bears, residents have a very brilliant idea, namely wearing a bear costume. Two residents, dressed as bears, began to move around the village to frighten monkeys.

Village head Ram Lalit Verma, told local reporters, "We have now begun to take turns wearing bear costumes and wandering around the village. It was a relative who had told me about the idea and it really worked."

The villagers collected money and bought three bear costumes from a makeup artist each for IDR1,700 (Dh87).

It's been a few days since the bears started to act and the number of monkey attacks has dropped. Previously, around 150 children had been attacked by monkeys in the village which has a population of around 5,200.
