News24xx.com - It is human nature to always want to look as good as possible, both when out in the public or on your social media posts. Even some people are willing to make large-scale efforts for skincare or face every week, but there are also many people who follow the beauty advice from the internet.

But did you know that some of these online beauty 'tips' are nothing more than myths? Even worse, some of them can even cause more damage than good. Here are 6 beauty tips that are found, but in fact, these tips are just a myth and a big one;

1. "Facial exercises can help tighten your skin"

In fact, there is no scientific research that says that facial exercises can help tighten your skin. In fact, plastic surgeons agree that facial exercises can cause deeper expression lines and more wrinkles.

FACT: Hypodermis is a layer of fat tissue that is located under the skin, and that layer is what makes our faces shake and tight. This fat tissue will decrease and cause the skin to sag with age.

2. "Don't laugh too much or your face will wrinkle faster"

You may have heard this often. Well, that might seem credible because "nasolabial folds" (the scientific term for laugh lines) will appear every time you smile.

FACT: Skin elasticity will thin out as your skin ages - so it's not because you laugh or smile too often. According to dermatologist's explanation, the age of the skin and fat tissue in the hypodermis will decrease. Since you can't do anything with aging, why not keep smiling? Now you don't need to worry about wrinkles just because you smile or laugh.

3. "If you have dry skin, drink more water to keep your skin hydrated"

These tips are typical advice from mothers who come from Asia. However, the reality is that drinking excessive water has the potential to cause water poisoning or frequent toilet visits, while your skin may remain as dry as before.

FACT: A dermatologist, Joel Schelessinger explains that hydrated dry skin can be helped through the production of natural oils or topical creams, lotions and serums. So, there is no doubt that "drinking more water" is extraordinary for one's health, but don't depend 100% on everything!

4. "Eating chocolate and oily foods will cause acne outbreaks"

Many of us have been told that eating too much 'hot' food will cause facial breakouts, especially during puberty. But according to one expert, this is not true at all!

FACT: Like other myths, there is little evidence to prove that chocolate or oily foods will cause acne. Conversely, excessive sugar or fat can increase sebum production, which is a facial oil and increases the inflammatory response in the body. Thus, an unbalanced diet basically causes facial acne, not just oily foods.

5. "Using too much sunscreen is dangerous for you"

Many might think that wearing sunscreen is not good for the skin because it looks oily.

And of course, some people have told you that applying sunscreen is bad because of the chemicals oxybenzone and paraben. Oxybenzone is a chemical commonly found in sunscreens that can cause skin allergies such as dry skin, rashes, and skin infections

FACT: Using sunscreen is not wrong. Sunscreen is needed for the skin. However, the most important thing is choosing the right sunscreen for your skin. Especially when we have to walk in the sun often and do occasional activities.
