Siak Regent Alfedri conducted the first planting of the People's Palm Oil Rejuvenation (PSR) or Replanting program in Empang Pandan Village, Koto Gasib District, Siak Regency.

"Alhamdulillah, today we are doing the first planting of oil palm rejuvenation, or replanting which will be carried out in Empang Pandan Village, Koto Gasib Subdistrict, Siak Regency with an area of ??122.8 Ha of the total land that is here approximately 900 Ha," said When Siak Regent Alfedri who was met after the event, the initial planting was on Friday February 14, 2020.

He explained, the Community Palm Oil Rejuvenation (PSR) program in Koto Gasib sub-district is a program of the Palm Oil Plantation Fund Management Agency (BPDPKS). For the first stage, the area of ??oil palm that will be rejuvenated will cover 122.8 hectares with a total of 55 farmers.

Replanting implementation was supported by the Agricultural Technology Assessment Center (BPTP Riau) who are ready to support farmers whose replanting land must wait 30 months to bear fruit. By assisting BPTP with farmers to cultivate intercropping in rejuvenated oil palm land.

"We do not want to do replanting with the aim of overcoming poverty, but creating new poverty, so with the support of BPTP Riau Province we get support, how will the community be given assistance before the palm oil harvest, how will there be a farming business, will be pursued planting corn, upland rice , soybeans and watermelons, "he explained.

He hopes that the area of ??land that has not been replanted, for the second phase can also be assisted through BPDPKS funds. Alfedri also encouraged Gapoktan, Farmers' Groups and Oil Palm Coordination to make a good oil palm plantation rejuvenation program.

Meanwhile, Chairperson of the Pandan Jaya Farmers Group (Gapoktan), Agus Salim Sinaga, said he was touched by the rejuvenation of this oil palm. Because it took quite a long time to wait for this program.

He explained, the existing oil palm trunks are no longer productive, of course it has an impact on the yields that are harvested and also affects the family income. From the information obtained from oil palm stems in Empang Pandan village, the planting year between 1982-1983.

"For us this rejuvenation is very important to do, because our oil palm age is more than 25 years. We hope that after the first phase is successful, we also try to propose the second stage of palm rejuvenation, let the farmers to complete the rejuvenation of the people's oil palm plantations," he said .
