News24xx.com -  A country in Africa has an unusual marriage tradition. It is a Mauritania country, located in northern Africa bordering with Mali and Senegal. Mauritania has a unique wedding tradition, that the bride must be fat!

From various sources, on Thursday, October 19 2017, this wedding tradition is called as Leblouh.

The women since they are teenager, will be forced to eat a lot. In an investigation, Amuritania culture says that fat women with layers of fat multiples under their skin is considered attractive, rich, and fertile.

According to one woman who had undergone Leblouh tradition, Mint Ahmed, if a girl does not want to eat her food, they will be punished. Parents will provide high-fat foods such as milk or meats.

So do not be surprised, women in Mauritania who follow the tradition of Leblouh can consume 16,000 calories of food.

Whereas normally adults only need about 2,000-2500 calories only.

"My mother started to fattening me when I was 13. She often beat me to eat more greasy, and every time I force to eat, my stomach taste like it's going to explode," Mint said as quoted by CNN.

Mar Jubero Capdeferro, who runs the United Nations gender program in Mauritania, says the younger generation is starting to abandon the Leblouh tradition.

The reason is because they have been more educated and see the bad effects of that tradition.

"The women who got the Leblouh tradition, are now very obese at the age of 40 to 50. They cannot even move, and have hypertension, diabetes, and so on," said Capdeferro.

Although Leblouh was abandoned, the 2007 Social Solidarity Association survey found that about 75 per cent of girls in rural areas were forced to fatten themselves.
