News24xx.com - Truffle mushrooms are notoriously expensive. In a charity auction event, a man from Hong Kong managed to buy a white truffle mushroom from Italy with a price of Rp 1.2 billion.

A Hong Kong buyer is willing to spend his money until HK $ 750,000 or about IDR 1.2 billion for three white truffles from Italy that many people coveted.

This mushroom is said to be rare and has a delicious flavor. At the annual global charity auction, this fungus is sold.

Quoted in SCMP November 13 2017, the winning bidder who was elected named Eugene Fung.

He finally managed to get this precious mushroom known as white gold weighing 900 grams. The auction was stalled after Italian farmers experienced the worst season affecting supply and pushing up the price of mushrooms to high price.

The 18th edition of World Alba White Truffle Auction taking place at Grinzane Cavour Castle in northwestern Italy. Alba is a small town and is known as the white truffle capital. Since 2005, the auction has been broadcast to bidders from Hong Kong.

For the past seven years, a renowned Italian chef, Umberto Bombana has hosted a streaming event in the city. A spokesman for Michelin starred restaurant, 8 1/2 Otto e Mezzo Bombana, informs that Fung is a lucky buyer.

More than 70 visitors participated in the charity with a minimum donation of HK $ 8,800 per person or about IDR 15 million.

One of the buyers named Joseph Tsai, as Alibaba Group vice president who bought two other types of mushrooms weighing 500 grams and 240 grams each sold for HK $ 470,000 or about IDR 814 million and HK $ 550,000 or IDR 953 million.

All of results will be awarded to Mother's Choice, a charity that support children without family.

The decline in the supply of white truffle mushroom in recent years is due to the prolonged drought and summer waves. As a result, the price of commodities is rare, around € 6,000 or about IDR 95.500.000 per kilogram.
