News24xx.com - The death toll from accident that  involving school bus and train has risen to six people, according to an official in France.

They were killed when their bus was split in two 'terrible accidents' in southern France.

Four teenagers was confirmed dead, two 11-year-old girls who died of their injuries while 18 others were injured, 14 of them children.

Officials have described the incident as one of the worst accidents involving school buses in France for 30 years.

They now see whether its human error or technical error as the cause of the collision in the town of Millas, near the border with Spain.

Investigators have just finished identifying the dead victim because of the severity of their injuries.

The mayor described the scene as a very horrible sight.

The female driver of the bus was among the injured and has not yet been questioned, but Perpignan prosecutor Jean-Jacques Fagni said investigators had spoken to the train driver.

It is unclear whether the automatic barrier at the intersection was open at the time of the crash, although the SNCF national rail operator said that 'according to witnesses, the level of crossings is functioning normally'.


All the kids on the bus are between 11 and 17 years old.
 

The train is believed to have traveled about 60mph when crashing the bus, causing the bus body to split in half.


President Emmanuel Macron said: 'All my thoughts are for the victims of this terrible accident involving school buses, as well as their families. The state will fully assist them. '
