News24xx.com -  David Allen Turpin, 57, and Louise Anna Turpin, 49, were arrested at their home in Perris, California, on Sunday after their children - aged between two and 29 years - were found locked and chained in a foul-smelling room.

Turpin's neighbors expressed their horror after finding out the couple that living in the quiet suburbs had handcuffed their 13 children in bed in a dirty room, before a teenage girl ran away, called the police and rescued her siblings.

The Riverside County Sheriff's Department began investigating after a 17-year-old girl managed to free herself from the house and called the police with a cell phone that she stole from inside the house on Sunday morning, January 14, 2018.

A total of 12 sisters were later found by officers and accused their parents has torturing and endangering their children.

But a shocked neighbor at Muir Woods Road said that they did not even know the kids were living on the property, and were horrified to find out what was really going on inside.

Andrew Santillan, who lives nearby said: "I do not know there are any children in this house. I did not know it can be happened. "

Zinzi and Ricardo Ross live on the same road as the Turpins.

"It's crazy, I do not believe this is happening," Ross said.

But Andria Valdez says that she's seen children before, and joking that they're like vampire families in Twilight books and movies because they're really pale and just come out at night

David Turpin's parents, James and Betty Turpin, told ABC News they were very surprised to hear the news.

The couple, who live in West Virginia, say they have not visited the family for four or five years but have spoken to them on the phone, even though not with their grandchildren.

Officers arrived home on Sunday morning and found some children and adults chained and locked in their beds in a foul-smelling room.

They are malnourished, dirty and all hospitalized.

Victims are given food and drink by the Child Protective Services and Adult Care Services.

The police initially thought all the victims were children but they found seven adults.

Mr and Mrs Turpin were arrested and charged with nine allegations of torture endangering a child. None of them has a serious criminal record.

The couple were held in the Robert Presley Detention Center east of Los Angeles and their security deposit was set at USD 9 million.

Before being arrested, a picture on Facebook showed Turpins renew their vow at a wedding ceremony in Las Vegas with 13 children that wearing the same outfit.

The 10 girls all wore pink dresses with white tights and white shoes, while boys were seen wearing suits with purple ties - and haircut bowls like their father.

The other pictures show the family smiling while traveling to Disneyland, while others show they wear a Dr Seuss-style t-shirt, with the tops of each child adorned with 'Thing 1' to 'Thing 13'.
