Hundreds of Sakai community makes a demonstrate in Riau police suing Ivomas

News24xx.com - Hundreds of people from Sakai tribes, Kandis, that consists of men, women, children and students staged a demonstration in front of Riau Police Office in Sudirman street, Pekanbaru on Monday, February 19 2018 afternoon.

 

While shouting yells and carrying dozens of banners, they demanded the oil palm company, PT Ivo Mas Tunggal (IMT) must dealt with firmly by Riau Police for do wrong to them. According to the coordinator of the protest, they asked the Riau Police to take action against the management of PT Ivo Mas Tunggal which they think has done the encroachment of the land and occupy the forest area.

 

He said that ulayat land is belong to the people of Sakai in Kandis. The land has been planted by oil palm companies without compensation to the community. The demonstrators also demanded the Riau Police to investigate the company's business activities, all licenses, Principal Permits, Location Permits, Amdal, HGU and so on.

The demonstrators also alleged that Ivo Mas Tunggal had seized the Sakai Indigenous people's land in Kandis Sub-district, Siak District, in Kampung Adat Bakalar, Kandis covering an area of ??approximately 6,505 hectares.

"The land is take without compensation from the company so our citizens can no longer try to make a living," said the demonstrators.

 

In the demonstration, dozens of police are busy arranging traffic and security because the rally stormed on Sudirman street and Gajahmada street, Pekanbaru.
