News24xx.com - Prince Charles of Wales will replace his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, as the next head of Commonwealth, much to the Queen’s satisfaction. The role is a non-hereditary one so it will not be passed automatically when the Queen pass away. There is a suggestion that it may be rotated among the 53 leaders of the Commonwealth.

Other than the Queen herself, UK Prime Minster Theresa May as well as Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also give their support for Prince Charles. May said that considering his support for the Commonwealth for more than four decades, it was “fitting” that the Prince replaces his mother as the head. She also praised the Queen for growing the Commonwealth members from 8 to 53.

The head of Commonwealth, which is held by the Queen, is more symbolic than active. The role is to unify the 53 states which are the members of the Commonwealth and ensure that the main aims are fulfilled. One of the duties includes linking the countries through trades and international cooperation. The head of the Commonwealth usually visit other states personally to foster this relationship among the different states.

The leaders of Commonwealth have set their goals and commitments, which include promoting gender equality, tackling climate change and preventing violent extremism. They also indicated the possibility of Zimbabwe entering back into the Commonwealth.
