Response of NU and Muhammadiyah about Surabaya bombings

News24xx.com -  After a a series of alleged suicide bombing attacks at five churches in Surabaya, East Java (two of them were failed to exploded), two nation’s largest Islamic organizations in Indonesia, Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) and Muhammadiyah have condemned that incident.


NU chairman Said Aqil Siradj said in a statement on Sunday, May 13 2018, "NU condemns all acts of terrorism, whatever the motive and background. Islam condemns any form of violence. There is not a single religion in the world that justifies violence as a way of life."


As information, as the result of Surabaya bombings, at least 10 people killed and 41 injuried. And police says the victim may will increase.


And Mr. Said also hope that the public not to be easily provoked by the terror attacks.


"We don't need to fear. I invited all Indonesians to unite in the name of humanity. And if you see, even, the smallest action that could lead to radicalism and terrorism, please report it immediately. All violent acts are contrary to Islamic values and contrary to all religious values."


And Muhammadiyah also have the same opinion. And as quoted by pwmu.co, that organization also strongly condemned the bombings.


“Muhammadiyah is strongly opposed to the suicide bombings that took place in Surabaya this morning. As a organization that fights for the good of Muslim society, the nation and humanity, we are condemned that incident,” said the head of the organization’s East Java chapter, M. Saad Ibrahim.

The Surabaya bombings occured days after the deadly riot at a detention center located at the National Police’s Mobile Brigade headquarters (Mako Brimob) in Depok, West Java. At that time, five police officers  were killed by terrorist at that riot.

Sr. Comr.  Frans Barung Mangera, East Java Police spokesman said five churchs became target of explosions.

Two of the bomb were failed. 

But, the bomb was success to exploded at Santa Maria Tak Bercela Catholic Church (STMB) on Ngagel Madya street in Gubeng, Surabaya Pentecostal Church (GPPS) on Raya Arjuna street and Indonesian Christian Church (GKI) on Diponegoro street.
