News24xx.com - Sometimes we are confused what to do with electronic devices that are not used. However, one thing you definitely should not do is to throw it in the bin.

Electronic equipment using lithium-ion batteries can burn easily in the trash. According to a USA Today report, disposable lithium-ion batteries are responsible for 65% of fires in California's waste disposal facilities last year, according to Gizmodo, Monday, May 21st 2018.

Burning lithium-ion batteries are also difficult to extinguish. Because if one battery is on fire, then another inactive battery can also be burned if is in contact with fire.

Burning lithium-ion batteries triggered 5 fire alarms earlier this year at a waste disposal facility in Queens, New York. This fire could only be extinguished after two days and the smoke from the fire caused four branches of the Long Island railway to be closed for several hours.

It's easy for a lithium-ion battery to suddenly in fire. If the battery terminal is exposed to contact with something metal like a garbage truck, it can cause a closed circuit and trigger an electric charge.

Battery production prices continue to keep decreasing, making lithium-ion batteries more affordable for manufacturers of electronic devices, such as smartphones, laptops, and even cars. The lithium-ion batteries themselves currently dominate for 70% of the rechargeable battery market in the United States.
