Manga One Piece sold for 440 million copies in this year, almost surpassing Batman comic

News24xx.com - The most popular Japanese manga these days, now that Bleach and Naruto had ended, seems to be One Piece. The manga about pirate’s life had been adapted into anime and its popularity only keeps growing. Its sales record now almost reaches Batman sales record.

According to the new report by Asahi, One Piece, a manga created by Eiichiro Oda has sold more than 440 million copies at this point. It is 10 million units higher than it was last year. It puts a step closer in becoming a competition for Batman.

With 440 million sales, One Piece is the highest-selling manga by far, almost pushing pass Batman. The iconic DC Comics series about the bat-themed superhero has sold over 460 million units since its debut in 1939. However, Batman’s popularity can last so long thanks to its multiple writers. One Piece is known to be the most top-selling comic period that is written by a single author.  However, the Japanese comic still has a long way to go to defeat DC Comic because when it comes to sales, Superman has the highest sale with 600 million copies sold.

The sales record makes Oda the 12th highest-selling fiction authors of all-time. As Japan’s top-seller, he was only surpassed by big names like J.K Rowling, Danielle Steel and William Shakespeare.

Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece began its debut in 1997, through Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump. Becoming critical and commercial success, One Piece has probably become the best selling manga series in the world. It even won in Guinness World Record for the most copies published for the same comic book by a single author.
