SSk airport Pekanbaru will be moved into Siak

News24xx.com - Wednesday, July 4th, 2018, the traffics and passengers at Sultan Syarif Kasim (SSK) II Airport Pekanbaru is estimated will be over loaded in the next ten years. So it takes a new airport to accommodate the high flow of air traffic later.

Mayor of Pekanbaru, Firdaus MT justify it. "We have already studied this with Angkasa Pura II, so it is predicted that 2025 passengers in SSK II will reach 9 million, while currently 4 million per year" he said.

For that reason, Firdaus MT mentioned that a new airport is needed to accommodate the high flow of air traffic. "We need a new airport preparation in order to avoid overload, which could disturb passengers' convenience, especially since the SSK II Airport currently has two functions, namely commercial and air base of the Indonesian Air Force" he said.

When asked about the statement of the Siak Regent, Syamsuar who planned to move the SSK II Airport to Siak, Firdaus MT did not deny it. "Indeed we are the regional head of Pekansikawan (Pekanbaru, Siak, Kampar, and Pelalawan). Mr. Harris, Jefri Noer and Syamsuar have the same view for having a strategically located airport, or better known as Airport City" he said.

"We hope that Mr. Syamsuar can be mandated by the people of Riau, can be more keen to see so that metropolitan Pekansikawan can be realized" he said.

Firdaus MT as Mayor of Pekanbaru is ready to support, especially when the Riau Election Commission has finished votings recapitulation. And Syamsuar was established and inaugurated as Riau Governor in February 2019.
