Dee Ann Rogers, the first black woman in history of UK to win Miss Universe UK

News24xx.com - Dee Ann Rodgers carved a new history of the world of English beauty contests. She became the first black woman to win the Miss Universe UK title since the contest was initiated in 1952 ago.

Women who represent Anguilla, one of the UK region will represent United Kingdom in the Miss Universe 2018 which will be held in the Philippines in December.

"This is very surprising and I think it's an honor for me to be the first black woman to be crowned Miss Universe United Kingdom" she told BuzzFeed News quoted from the Huffington Post.

She added that her victory is a sign that Britain is a multicultural country. Ethnic diversity, she says, is now able to go on stage so that all black girls as well as from all ethnic groups can see that beauty contests are a place for all.

Dee managed to put aside 40 other contestants from different parts of the UK. Dee is also an athlete. She has won a silver medal for heptathlon in Central America and Caribbean Games, as well as a bronze medal at CARIFTA Games.

This sports branch is a combination of seven types of sports, as the name 'hepta' from the Greek meaning seven. Heptathlon usually consists of running, long jump, high jump, and javelin throw.
