News24xx.com - Not long ago, Sony announced that it had sold more than 525 million PlayStation units since it first released it on December 3rd, 1994, or almost 24 years ago. Now, it is the turn for Nintendo to tell its console sales number.

The Japanese company has now sold more than 725 million consoles in the 35 years since they released Family Computer (Famicom). Not familiar with the name? Maybe the name Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) will be friendlier to the ear.

Famicom is the name used by Nintendo in Japan. Whereas NES is used throughout the world in addition to the Sakura Country. Since its appearance, the console successfully introduced a number of iconic game titles such as Super Mario Bros and The Legend of Zelda. In fact, Nintendo has re-released the name NES Classic Edition since last June.

After launching NES in 1983, Nintendo continued to release various consoles. Game Boy, Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES), N64, Gamecube, Wii, DS, and Switch are a number of Nintendo consoles from time to time. Overall, they have sold 727.65 million units of consoles.

DS is the biggest contributor to sales with a score of 154.02 million units. In the second position is Game Boy which sold 118.69 million units. Wii followed in third place with 101.63 million units, as quoted from Screen Rant, Monday, August 13th 2018.

While the Nintendo Switch, one of its newest consoles, has now touched sales at 19.67 million units. The incision has succeeded in making it beat sales of Wii U (13.56 million units) and getting closer to Gamecube (21.74 million units).
