News24xx.com -  Being single has its own set of advantages and disadvantages when it comes to personal development. On one side, it allows us to learn self-reliance and independence.

But on the other, it opens up the possibility of loneliness and social isolation. And according to studies, this form of loneliness can become even more deadly than obesity.

Brigham Young University's Psychology professor, Dr. Julianne Holt-Lunstad tells The New York Post that there is a 'Loneliness Epidemic' that is happening around the world and it is one that should not be taken lightly.

"There is robust evidence that social isolation and loneliness significantly increase the risk for premature mortality, and the magnitude of the risk exceeds that of many leading health indicators," Holt-Lunstad explains.

To reduce the risk of "death by loneliness", Holt-Lunstad suggests schools to promote and nurture social development among the youth so as to avoid this issue in the future.

But for adults suffering from loneliness, it is highly recommended to that you reach out for psychiatric help to avoid any further complications on this.

And remember, the risk of dying from this is 30 per cent higher than that of obesity, so please take care of your health.
