Ikea and Apple collaborate for a furniture app

News24xx.com - Swedish furniture giant Ikea has revealed their collaboration with Apple for an augmented reality (AR) furniture app, which aims to help customers picture how a product would look in their home before purchasing it.

“This technology makes it easier to make buying decisions in your own home, get inspired and try many different products, styles and colors in real-life settings with the swipe of your finger,” Inter IKEA’s leader of digital transformation, Michael Valdsgaard, said in a press release.

This is not Ikea's first time in utilizing AR technology. In 2013, the retailer introduced Ikea Catalogue “Place in your room”, in which customers could scan selected pages on the 2014 printed catalog with an app, place the printed catalog in a spot where they want to place the furniture and choose which product they like.

However, it is said that Apple will provide stability to enhance the AR experience and make it more accessible for the decision-making process in reality.

The collaboration was announced at Apple’s Worldwide Developer’s Conference on June 5 and Ikea Democratic Design Days on June 7. The app is scheduled to be released in the fall this year
