The father of rapper Nicki Minaj passed away after a hit-and-run accident on Saturday, February 13, 2021.
In a statement, the Nassau Police Department said Robert Maraj was walking in the Mineola area, Long Island, on Friday, February 12 at 6 p.m. US time.
After that, Maraj was hit by a vehicle that immediately left the scene.
Maraj was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition and pronounced dead the following day. Currently, the police are still investigating the process of the incident and the suspect.
Nicki Minaj’s relationship with Robert Maraj has had ups and downs. Since childhood, Minaj lived with her grandmother because her father was addicted to alcohol and drugs and had high emotions that burned their family home in 1987.
In several interviews, Minaj described her father’s abusive experiences with her. They start to reconcile with each other and live their separate lives. Until now, Minaj has not yet spoken out about her father.
Robert Maraj died at the age of 64.
