Foreign tourists are prohibited from traveling to Indonesia until the end of 2020.
This was expressed by the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Menko Marves) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan in front of entrepreneurs in a working meeting and national consultation of the Indonesian Employers’ Association (Apindo) which was held virtually.
According to Luhut, the government is currently prioritizing programs to encourage domestic tourists to return to vacation in various tourist destinations in Indonesia.
This was done to revive Indonesia’s tourism sector and keep controlling the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19).
Luhut assessed that Indonesian people, especially those in the middle to upper class, still have the financial capacity to travel domestically.
Begitu, the government focuses on returning the group’s interest to travel again.
“I reported it to the President yesterday, we have quite a lot of money, there is no Umrah.”
“Setiap tahun, hampir 500,000 untuk 1 jutaan orang. That’s people who have funds, who are Umrah.”
“Then people who went to Singapore, to Penang in Malaysia did not get treatment.”
“And almost all of it we count, maybe nearly tens of billions of dollars (Amerika Serikat / KAMI). So that we want to spend domestically,” said Luhut.
Saat ini, the government has re-opened tourist areas in Bali and Banyuwangi.
Menurut dia, since it was opened 2 weeks ago, no one has shown any new cases of Corona.
Melihat kondisi ini, the government will continue to encourage tourism to re-open and rise.
