After the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, the Black Lives Matter movement sparked huge protests. George Floyd’s death might not have caused global outrage if it hadn’t been filmed.
Dan sekarang, the same incident occurred in Ohio, but because of a small thing, it’s about hair !!!
An Ohio family has taken their kids out of a private school named Zion Temple Christian Academy in Avondale, over the dreadlock ban.
The poor parents named Christina and Nate Johnson decided not to be sending their children to that school after one of their children named Asten,6, wore dreadlocks.
As quoted News24xx.com from The Cincinnati Enquirer, Christina Johnson told, “What’s disheartening about Zion school is it’s in the middle of a Black community, and it’s a predominantly Black school. But how can you not accept your own people over your dreadlock?”
Christina told that Asten was deemed unacceptable because of its length and hair style.
Respond to that incident, through an email the Zion school officials told that the official dress of school code bans braids and design cuts of Mohawk hairstyles. And they also noted that hair must be cut one inch short.
Sebagai informasi, after the Black Lives Matter movement, on last October, the Cincinnati City Council specifically mentions nondiscrimination against natural hairstyles does not apply to religious groups.
Tapi, in many places religious organizations are still allowed to dictate hair policy.
The pushback against such policies is nationwide and catching on, meskipun
