A sausage producer in the small town of Bad Zwischenahn, Germany in recent months has managed to increase turnover by 100 persen.
But not with the sausage products they usually offer, but with new products that are trending.
Namely fake meat sausages, aka sausages that are similar in shape to ordinary products, but without meat.
The same goes for its competitor, the Wiesenhof company, which usually also offers a wide variety of traditional sausages.
Tahun ini, sales of vegetarian and vegan products from Wiesenhof have increased by 44 persen.
Big producers such as Nestle from Switzerland also experienced turning away from meat-free foods.
In the first half of 2020, the turnover of plant-based products increased by 40 persen.
Now Nestle is trying out its latest creation: the fake tuna called “Vuna”, which is made from green beans.
Stefan Palzer, Chief Technology Officer of Nestle, said with enthusiasm, their target is consumers in Switzerland and Germany who he calls “Flexitatrier”.
These are consumers who for reasons of climate protection reduce their consumption of meat and fish, but still want meat and fish flavored dishes.
