The king of Saudi Arabia, Salman bin Abdulaziz al-Saud, spoke by telephone with the President of the United States (KAMI), Donald Trump.
In that conversation, King Salman told Trump that the Saudis really want a fair and permanent solution to the Palestinian issue.
As reported by Reuters on Monday (7 September 2020), a telephone conversation between King Salman and Trump that took place on Sunday (6 September) waktu lokal.
In the conversation they discussed the continuation of the historic agreement between the United Arab Emirates (UEA) and Israel which was mediated by the US last month.
Under the agreement, the UAE agreed to normalize diplomatic relations with Israel.
The UAE is the third Arab country to make such a move, after Egypt and Jordan.
During this telephone conversation, King Salman told Trump that he appreciated the US efforts to support peace.
Namun, King Salman also informed Trump of the Saudi position on the Palestinian issue.
It is known that in the Arab Peace Initiative proposed by the Saudis in 2002, Arab countries offered to normalize relations with Israel in exchange for an agreement to form a state with Palestine and Israel’s full withdrawal from territories captured during the 1967 Middle East War.
The Saudi kingdom has not recognized Israel until now.
But this month, Saudi authorities were found to be allowing commercial flights on UAE-Israel routes, including by Israeli airlines, to fly through its airspace.
