On September 14th, Nutella’s US Twitter account @NutellaUSA issued a statement that shocked the public.
They say that Nutella products are ‘not halal’.
His statement started with a netizen @ imjustsully2 who asked about the halalness of Nutella.
“Are your products halal,?” dia menulis.
Twitter account @NutellaUSA replied, “Tidak, Nutella is not halal,”.
This immediately went viral and made netizens wonder.
Netizens who asked that immediately checked the ingredients for making Nutella, but did not find anything haram.
Reporting from the Nutella website, this hazelnut chocolate jam is made from seven ingredients, such as sugar, palm oil, hazelnuts, susu, chocolate, lecithin and vanilla.
Heran, after the tweet went viral, the Nutella Twitter account immediately confirmed the tweet by saying that their product was halal.
“Lebih dari 90% of the industrial plants that produce Nutella have been certified Halal by third parties and we are in the process of certifying the remaining factories.
We apologize for the mistakes made in our previous tweet, “dia menulis (September 14).
Launching from Middle East Monitor (September 16) based on the laws of the United States and Canada, halal certification labeling is not mandatory for products that do not contain meat or additives.
Karena itu, Nutella products in the United States do not have halal certification, even though the ingredients used are halal.
Meanwhile in Indonesia, Nutella products have received halal certification from the National Independent Halal Trust (NIHT).
Tambahan, halal certification is also given by MUI with certificate number 00110086471217 which is valid until December 3, 2021.
The Twitter account for Nutella USA tweeted various responses from netizens.
Most asked them to delete their tweets.
Not a few also blame those who run Twitter Nutell USA.
“Better just delete the previous tweet so as not to cause public confusion,” tulis seorang netizen.
“This is an example of a company social media account answering a question they don’t know about,” wrote another netizen.
