News24xx.com -  The Transportation Ministry's director general of land transportation Budi Setiyadi said the government will re-evaluate the tariff for online motorcycle taxis. The government has recently completed the survey on implementing new rates for the online ride-hailing service known to Indonesians as ojek.

"The other day we had three schemes; unchanged, lowered, or raised," he said here on Monday, June 10.

However, he added, the surveys' result suggested some the rates for short-distance rides need adjusting—preferably lowered.

Budi said the tariff change for online ojeks will be discussed again this week. He expect all talks to be completed oover the next week or two.

"It should be done by the end of June. I will present it then," he said.

According to Budi, the survey suggested that the fare for online ojek short-distance rides—a.k.a. less than four kilometers—Budi is still too high at Rp7,000 to Rp10,000.

He said that many passengers are complaining about the tariff. He ensured that the top and bottom ceilings for the tariffs would be lowered.

Budi also added that the tariff-per-kilometer will likely be reduced slightly, but will remain fair and profitable to the ojek drivers.

The Transportation Ministry has imposed new rules on the tariffs for online ojeks taxis on May 1, 2019. The rule includes regulations on safety and tariffs, among others.
