One person killed in road race event in Bengkalis, Indonesian Motor Association apologizes

News24xx.com -  An incident happened during the Regional Road Race Championship of Indonesian Motor Association in Bengkalis Regency, Riau, on Sunday, July 14th 2019. This incident caused the death of one spectator.

Talking about the incident, the organizing committee of the race and the Bengkalis sports branch of IMI apologize to the family of the victim. The committee also apologize to the people of Bengkalis and say that they will take responsibility for the incident.

“We were always there accompanying the victim since last night in Bengkalis Regional Hospital during intensive treatment, until today in the funeral home of Senggoro Village,” said the Head of the Committee for the Race, Chairul Afrizal, accompanied by the Chairman of Bengkalis IMI, Windi Tresnawan, to the reporters, on Monday, July 15th.

He said that the committee had prepared for the safety of the spectators by calling a consultant from Pekanbaru. He also repeatedly told the audience not to enter the danger zone, which was the junction.

“Regarding the spectator that was caught in the incident, he was in the danger zone, located in the junction in front of the Office of Information and Communication Department of Bengkalis at Kartini Street. So when the racer slipped, he crashed straight into the spectator. Meanwhile the location was forbidden for spectators,” he said.
