News24xx.com - The Meranti Islands Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) managed to thwart the theft that occurred at the former market owned by the Meranti Islands Regional Government (Pemda) on Jalan Selatpanjang Port, Saturday (9/11/2019) at around 22:00 WIB.

The Head of Satanti PP Meranti Islands, Helfandi said, it was known the theft of the assets of the Regional Government, namely, started from a report so that Satpol PP members immediately dropped out of the field, and found three young men were seen engrossed in dismantling the assets of the local government.

But said Helfandi, after seeing Satpol PP members coming to the location, the three young men ran helter-skelter and managed to escape from the pursuit of Satpol PP members.

"When we arrived at the location, they were seen unloading. When they were going to park their car, they ran away, even one of them was determined to jump from the ceiling of the market. When being chased by their members, they were already invisible because of the dark situation," Helfandi said, Sunday (11/10) / 2019).

Satpol PP succeeded in bringing evidence of the results of the demolition of the perpetrators such as zinc, wood and others. Besides tools used like hammers, crowbars were also secured.

"We did not succeed in pursuing the perpetrators, but we secured the items that were unloaded and the equipment used and then we brought it to the office," said Helfandi.

Helfandi said, since he was assigned to Satpol PP, many efforts had been made by irresponsible people to take the former building that was built in Bengkalis era.

For this reason, he appealed to the public to safeguard these government assets, although their use has not been clear since market activities were transferred to the Tanjung Harapan Modern Market.

"We ask the community to protect this asset, because it has been fenced and we do not know what it will be built for next. And we as officers are obliged to protect this," he said.
