Eight Pang family members were attacked by deadly insects when they were about to leave the funeral site of their relatives on Saturday.

The eight men are between 45 and 87 years old. They walk when passing a very aggressive group of wasps in Tangdu village.

A 70-year-old man died of anaphylaxis - a severe allergic reaction to a sting - at the scene. The victims were taken to the Xingye People's Hospital, according to local media.

In the hospital two more men, aged 60 and 87, died from fatal anaphylactic shock.

The five survivors were taken to a larger hospital for further treatment.

According to officials in the Xingye area in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, southern China, one person is still in serious condition.

Reportedly, some survivors were paralyzed with pain and lay on the ground after being stung by the wasps.

Hundreds of wasp stings can be seen throughout the body, arms and face of the victim.

The local fire department, together with forestry experts, then removed the wasps' nest after the incident.

They are still investigating this case and providing the necessary support to Pang's family, said a statement by the district city government.

Wasp species that attack funeral participants have not been disclosed.
