The Zoning System for Registration to Public Schools Is Still Effective This Year, Only 50 Percent for Prospective Local Students

News24xx.com - The zoning system for registering new students to state schools is still in force this year even though the Minister of Education has changed. Prospective students accepted only 50 percent, not 80 percent like last year.

"Although many parents complain, but the registration system for new students for public schools still uses the zoning system in the new school year," said Head of the Education Office (Disdik) Pekanbaru City Abdul Jamal, Friday (2/14/2020).

The change in the quota of prospective students living in the nearest state school is based on the Ministry of Education and Culture (Permendikbud) Regulation No. 44 of 2019 concerning Acceptance of New Students (PPDB). Last year, there were 80 percent of prospective local students.

"This year, the government reduced the quota of local student candidates by 50 percent. Especially in Pekanbaru, the minimum quota of the number of prospective students was added to the local student quota," he said.

Thus, the opportunity for prospective students to be accepted at the nearest state school can remain high. This will be regulated by Mayor Regulation.

"We will consult first with the mayor," Jamal said.

The quota distribution during PPDB this year is 50 percent of prospective students, 15 percent of economically disadvantaged students, 30 percent of prospective students, and 5 percent transfer students.

To note, PPDB with this zoning system is Muhajir Effendy's policy when he served as Minister of Education and Culture (Mendikbud) last year. Now, the Minister of Education and Culture is held by Nadiem Makarim.
