Fighters from the United States are also likely to face Khabib for the race for the UFC championship belt. Gaethje himself was in fact a substitute fighter in the face of El Cucuy after Khabib retired due to the coronavirus pandemic.

However, it was Gaethje who had the right to face Khabib after conquering Ferguson in the race for the interim champion. Now he claims he can't wait to be one octagon with the best Russian fighter.
