News24xx.com - The prospect of lowering the retirement age in Russia is poorly implemented, since its increase has enabled the state to save significant funds.

This was stated by the head of the State Duma Committee on Labor and Social Policy, Yaroslav Nilov, RIA Novosti reported on Saturday, May 23.

“I am in favor to reducing the retirement age. Regarding the real prospects, I doubt very much that the authorities will go to this, unfortunately, ” he emphasized.

At the same time, the parliamentarian suggested that in the event of rising unemployment, instead of reducing the retirement age, a policy of targeted support for the most affected sectors may be pursued.

In particular, more attention will be paid to the work of employment centers, retraining and retraining, and, possibly, more funds will be allocated for creating jobs - primarily for young people and people of pre-retirement age.

The fact that Russia may again reduce the age of retirement in the event of an increase in the unemployment rate in the country was previously stated by Associate Professor of the Department of Human Capital Development at Plekhanov Russian Far East University - Farid Mirzabalaev.

According to him, such a measure will be forced if, after the coronavirus epidemic, the number of vacancies decreases. In such circumstances, jobs will have to be vacated for young people who have not yet earned benefits, in contrast to the so-called retirees, who are protected by state benefits.
