News24xx.com - Going to the movies has taken on a new meaning.

The Town of Brookfield has approved plans for a drive-in movie theater at Marcus Majestic Cinema.

The outdoor theater, at 770 N. Springdale Road, will open at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 29, with a double feature of "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial" and "Jurassic Park."

The action comes after the Milky Way Drive-In recently opened at Ballpark Commons in Franklin.

Tickets will be made available online and on the Marcus Theatres app.

Marcus Theatres plans to ensure social distancing with security that will patrol the lot.

The company is asking that people remain in their vehicles, or immediately in front of their vehicles. Guests will be required to wear face coverings whenever they are outside of their vehicles.

Refreshments, which will be served at the front door of the cinema, can be ordered online, on the app or by calling the cinema. No alcohol will be served, according to an operating plan filed with the town.

A maximum of 120 cars will be allowed at a time, with each car maintaining a 6-foot buffer, according to a parking plan.

The theater will originally run five days a week, but that could change later to seven days a week.

Brookfield Town Supervisor Mike Schmitt said he approves this use of the building.

"This temporary use will allow Marcus to transition its business model during these unusual times," Schmitt said in an email.

Marcus Theatres opened its first parking lot cinema in Omaha, Nebraska, last weekend.

“We are excited to welcome back guests to our theatre through our second Parking Lot Cinema concept,” said Rolando Rodriguez, chairman, president and CEO of Marcus Theatres, in a news release.
