News24xx.com - A man was found dead with a deep gash to his forehead and a bag full of cash on a Bronx street.

Cesar Mejia, 69, had bruises on both sides of his body when cops found him on the corner of Bolton St. and Pelham Parkway South, just a few paces from his home about 9:30 p.m. Friday.

He also had a messenger bag containing $3,000, his wallet and two cellphones, police sources said.

Mejia was taken to Jacobi Medical Center, but he could not be saved. An autopsy has been scheduled to determine how he died.

Investigators are working on the theory that he may have been assaulted several hours before before medics arrived.

There have been no arrests.
