PADAU PADANG- Through the Community Development (CD) program, Riau Andalan Pulp and Paper (RAPP) company channeled development assistance to schools and villages in Padang Island, Kepulauan Meranti Regency, Riau. The COVID-19 pandemic did not dampen RAPP's commitment to help the community.

The assistance in the form of building materials was distributed to 7 schools, including 4 Mekar Delima Public Elementary Schools (SDN), SDN 15 and SDN 17 Tanjung Padang, SDN 10 and SDN 18 Putri Puyu, and SDS Mekar Delima. Assistance will be used for the retrieval of the school yard and reading halls. Then also the help of educational game tools for PAUD Junior Village Kudap, Padang Island such as swings, rounds and slides.

The village head of Putri Puyu, Syahrul said that assistance was indeed needed by the community for the progress of village services and education in the village in the future.

"Our infinite thanks to RAPP for this assistance, because with the help of facilities and infrastructure this will improve the quality of village services, so that it can provide comfort for residents when taking care of administration," he explained on Friday (5/6).

Principal of SDN 5 Lukit School, Kesumawati S.Pd said that this assistance really helped the smooth process of teaching and learning activities in schools. Because, during this time in the rainy season, schools cannot hold ceremonies because the field is wet and muddy.

"Our hope is that in addition to the ceremony, this field can also be used by children for sports or physical education activities. We are very grateful to RAPP for this assistance, "he said.

RAPP Estate Manager of the Padang Island region, Agil Pramudji said this assistance was part of the School Improvement program that focused on increasing interest in reading, speaking, arithmetic, and achievement of the Adiwiyata School.

"This is a company's commitment to develop the potential that exists in the community. Because the company does not want to develop alone, but also wants to grow and develop with the community, "he explained.

The details of the construction materials consist of 9 tons of cement, 120 iron bars, 180 sheets of roof, and the name plate of the school. As for the village community service office in the form of 22 chairs, 5 tables and 3 wall fans. Given the geographical conditions in the islands, aid and building materials are transported by ship and directly delivered to the respective harbor village.

Agil added that support for educational facilities and community services is part of the company's initiative in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030. In indicator number 4 which ensures inclusive and equal quality education, it also supports lifelong learning opportunities for all.
