News24xx.com - Couples in Indonesia hold wedding receptions during the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic, without following prescribed guidelines. This reception wedding, which took place in Semarang, Central Java, involved more than 30 people.

This happened after the country's Ministry of Religious Affairs allowed Muslims to hold a wedding vows ceremony on June 10, 2020, which is a legal requirement for marriage in Indonesia. They are allowed to do it outside the office where the local religious affairs office is located, in their home, in the mosque, or meeting room.

The couple invited more guests than was actually permitted, and before long. As a result, their guests began to fall ill one after another.

"It (the wedding reception) was not carried out in accordance with health protocols because the bride and groom invited more than 30 people," Semarang mayor Hendrar Prihadi said in speaking with Kompas.

Testing of attendees at the wedding revealed that as many as 30 people, including members of the mosque, were infected with Covid-19.

Central Java Suara also reported that the bride's mother and bride's sister died because of Covid-19.

Because of this case, the area became a new cluster in Semarang. Until Monday (June 22, 2020), Semarang recorded 554 cases of Covid-19, and 112 deaths.
