PT. Riau Andalan Pulp and Paper and 3 villages in Siak Regency to do Memorandum of Understanding

News24xx.com - To prevent forest and land fires in Siak Regency, PT. Riau Andalan Pulp and Paper and 3 Villages in Siak Regency, namely Dayun Village, Olak Village and Lubuk Jering Village signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the Fire Free Village Program in 2020.

In his remarks, General Manager of PT. Riau Andalan Pulp and Paper Wan Muhammad Jack Anza said that PT. Riau Andalan Pulp and Paper takes a strategic approach to fire management with a special focus on forest and land fire prevention through the Fire Free Village Program collaborate with local communities to address the root causes of fires.

"As a direct result of community involvement through the Fire Free Village Program, the total area burned was only 0.39 percent of the total 750,000 hectares of forest and land associated with villages that participated around the RAPP concession over the past 5 years", Wan Muhammad Jack Anza.

Starting in 2014, the Fire Free Village Program has 4 villages that became pilot projects. In 2015 9 villages, in 2016 18 villages, and in 2020 there were 28 villages in 3 districts, namely Pelalawan Regency, Meranti Islands and Siak districts namely in Dayun District, Dayun Village and in Sungai Mandau District, Olak Village, Lubuk Jering Village.

"For 2020, there are 3 villages that will receive an award in the form of cash amounting to Rp. 100,000,000, if there is no fire, namely Kampung Dayun, Kampung Olak and Kampung Lubuk Jering", explained the General Manager of Stake Holder Relations of the PT. Riau Andalan Pulp and Paper.

The Fire Free Village Program not only rewards crew leaders and land clearing assistance, but also has a socialization and education program to the community including school children namely Fire Aware Community. There are 3 forms of Fire Aware Community activities including Fire Aware Community Goes to School, Fire Aware Community Goes to Movie and Fire Aware Community Goes to Market.

In his direction, the Regent of Siak Alfedri appreciated the PT. Riau Andalan Pulp and Paper program, the Fire Free Village Program, which had been carried out from 2015.

"In the past there were 7 villages that had participated in the Fire Free Village program, and now 3 more villages were added, so the 10 villages in Siak have participated in this program," Alfedri said, in Sri Indrapura's meeting room.

In addition, Alfedri assessed that the Fire Free Village program must continue to be developed so that forest and land fires no longer occur in Riau, especially in Siak Regency.

"Hopefully with this Fire Free Village program, we can continue to suppress the number of forest and land fires in Riau Province, especially in Siak Regency," hoped the Regent of Siak.

Then Alfedri also advised to suppress the number of forest and land fires in Siak Regency, needing cooperation from all parties, be it the local government, the Indonesian National Police, the Indonesian National Army, the community and other parties. Moreover, the amount of peatlands in Siak Regency is almost 50% of the area of ??Siak Regency.

The same thing was said by the Siak District Police Chief Adjunct Senior Commissioner Doddy Ferdinand Sanjaya, that forest and land fires are a joint responsibility of all parties.

"These forest and land fires are a big task for the Indonesian National Police, for that we must work hand in hand to anticipate that forest and land fires will not occur again. Once again we emphasize that these forest and land fires are a joint responsibility. We must take care that Riau's sky remains blue, "said the Siak Resort Police Chief.
