The meeting was held to anticipate the possibility of a long drought predicted to occur this year. Therefore, the agenda of the meeting was focused on anticipatory steps for the occurrence of Forest and Land Fires Disaster in Riau Province, especially Siak Regency.

"Today we attended a coordination meeting to discuss various anticipatory measures for the Forest and Land Disaster which are estimated to potentially occur when entering the second cycle of the dry season later, possibly between June and October," Alfedri said.

He continued, the Coordination Meeting was led by the Governor of Riau Syamsuar, attended by elements of the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum of Riau Province, as well as Regents and Mayors throughout Riau Province.

"In accordance with the direction conveyed by the Governor, the Coordination Meeting is intended to follow up the Presidential Instruction in efforts to combat Forest and Land Fires in Riau Province," he said.

Therefore, it is necessary to prevent and control forest and land fires continuously with synergic steps between the central, provincial and regional governments.

"Riau Province has 4.9 million hectares of peatland, with two dry season cycles in a year. This geographical and climatic condition is one of the factors why Riau Province is a subscribed area for forest fires," he repeated the Governor's direction.

The Regent Alfedri also reminded the entire community of Siak Regency, so that in facing the dry season some of the future do not clear land by burning. That said, he greatly affected business activities and living things.

Meanwhile, Governor Syamsuar explained the geographical condition of Riau which is prone to forest and land fire disasters. He asked all parties including the regional heads to work hand in hand to prevent the occurrence of the disaster.

"I invite the Regents and Mayors to jointly find a permanent solution in preventing forest and land fires, such as restoring the natural function of wet peat, to get watery and swampy again. Change behavior by providing integrated and integrated counseling to improve the people's economy," begged Governor Syamsuar.
