Regional Secretary Indragiri Hilir Attends Tembilahan City Inflation Control Coordination Meeting with Bank Indonesia

The meeting, which was attended by H Said Syarifuddin who was also the Chairperson of the Inhil District Inflation Control Team, was held as a follow up to the results of the Riau Province Regional Inflation Control High Level Meeting on the 18th May 2020.

Based on the BPS monitoring results of Indragiri Hilir Regency, in June 2020 Tembilahan City was recorded as the region with the highest inflation in Sumatra with 1.13 percent of the Consumer Price Index of 105.86. The June 2020 calendar year inflation rate is 2.91 percent and the year-to-year sincerity rate (June 2020 against June 2019 is 2.99 percent.

The June inflation was sourced from food groups, mainly purebred chicken and processed food from chickens due to a lack of chicken supply from breeders.

Seeing this high inflation rate, the regional secretary revealed that the phenomenon must be addressed immediately, especially staples as a source of inflation.

"Because of the high inflation in foodstuffs, such as rice, vegetables, chillies, onions. All of this is supplied from abroad, of course it depends on the producing regions and smooth distribution. We hope in the future it can be stable," said the regional secretary when asked information.

From the results of the meeting, revealed the regional Secretariat, the first step to overcome this inflation is to develop the potential in the region itself, such as chili and rice.

"We are also included in the regional inflation handling competition in Indonesia. We are guided by Bank Indonesia and the Riau Provincial Government to prepare the necessary documents," he concluded.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Bank Indonesia Representative of Riau Province revealed that the purpose of the meeting was to evaluate the development of prices of staple goods, and to anticipate price increases and inflation that would potentially occur later.

"There are 3 inflation cities in Riau, Dumai, Pekanbaru and Tembilahan. Dumai and Pekanbaru have relatively safe inflation for the past 6 months. Indragiri Hilir is our concern, because in Tembilahan the inflation reached an incredible 3 percent," he said.

The concern is, he added, during the dry season, because during the dry season there is often an increase in prices of basic commodities, so it is feared that inflation will continue.

Also present at the meeting were officials who were members of the Regional Inflation Control Team of Indragiri Hilir Regency, namely, Acting Head of the Fisheries Service, Acting Head of the Trade and Industry Office, and Head of the Economy and Natural Resources Section of the Indragiri Hilir Regency Secretariat.
