"Britain is far behind many countries in terms of wearing masks," said the head of the British National Academy of Sciences, the Royal Society, Venki Ramakrishnan said Tuesday (7 July).

He said that not wearing a mask should be considered an antisocial behavior such as driving while intoxicated. He reasoned that there was "growing evidence that wearing masks would help protect others - and maybe even protect themselves."

His statement came as a response to global scientific research on the use of masks published by multi-disciplinary groups organized by the Royal Society - Evaluating Data and Learning for Viral Epidemics (DELVE).
